Rhododendron vireya 140mm
Orange-yellow trumpet-shaped flowers shading to
orange-red. Free flowering shrub around 1m tall.
FEATURES: Vireya Rhododendrons are a varied group of shallow-rooted
shrubs which vary in size, and shape. Their most notable feature is the
brilliant floral display they produce in vibrant colours ranging from white
to the deepest red, some producing a perfume.
CONDITIONS: Vireyas require free-draining, acidic soils in well-lit areas,
protected from the hot afternoon sun. Where drainage is poor, plant in
a mound or raised bed, and mulch the area to conserve soil moisture
and keep the roots cool. Soils should be kept moist, but not wet. When
planting in pots, use a well-drained potting mix.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Water regularly, particularly in warmer weather.
A regular application of dilute fertiliser is beneficial. Avoid fertilising prior
to Winter in frost-prone areas as this encourages frost tender new growth.
Prune as required
