Ravenea rivularis (Majestic Palm)Ã‚Â
A very tall and graceful palm originating from the rainforests of Madagascar that thrives in warm, subtropical climates.
FEATURES: A reasonably fast-growing palm with numerous elegant, arching, lush green fronds that arise from a single, self-cleaning, smooth, tapering trunk. Can reach 20m in its natural habitat but usually grows 10 to 14m high, with a 30-60cm diameter trunk, in most other landscapes.
CONDITIONS: Suited to well-drained soils in a sunny to partly shaded position. Tolerant of mild frost to -3Ã‚Â°C but requires some protection from extreme cold, heavy frosts and wind. Avoid long exposure to waterlogged and dry conditions.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Water well until established. Fertilise during the growing season and remove spent fronds as necessary. Repot potted specimens every two years or so.
