A species of the genus Prunus, Prunus Lusitanica is an evergreen, small shrub that can grow up to 3 to 6 metres tall. With blackish-brown bark and dark green glossy and leathery foliage, the oval-shaped leaves of the plant are 7 to 12 centimetres long and 3 to 5 centimetres broad. Easily grown in well-drained, moist, moderately fertile soils, the plant loves part shade or full shade. Perfect for windbreaks or screens or hedges, in shrub borders, and as a specimen plant. The plant blossoms tiny white flowers and cherry-like drupe in early autumn or late summer.
