Description
Vaccinium Misty (Blueberry) 200mm
Easy to grow deciduous fruiting bush producing
delicious berries high in antioxidants,
vitamins and fibre.
FEATURES: Deciduous shrub growing to around 2m tall. Bears white
bell-shaped flowers in spring followed by clusters of blue edible berries
in summer
CONDITIONS: Blueberries require friable soils that are moisture
retentive, free-draining, acidic and rich in organic matter and with
pH of 4.5-5.5. Plant in a protected position which receives full sun
FOR BEST RESULTS: Enrich soil with a thick mulch layer of good
compost and animal manure. (Do not use fowl manure as it is too
alkaline.) Make sure soil is kept moist. Feed in spring and autumn with
an organic fertiliser. Remove flowers from year old (or small 2 year old)
plants to encourage vigour. Prune in winter to remove weak growth
and older suckers.
HARVEST: Bunches will start to form after the flowers have withered.
Starting out pale green the berries will progress to pale pink then pale
blue. Roughly 2 weeks later when deep dark blue the first of the crop
should be ready to harvest by easily twisting off the stem.
