Also known as Black Gum, Tupelo, Sour Gum, Nyssa Sylvatita is a medium-sized, deciduous, and slow-growing tree native to North Eastern areas of the United States. With decorative appeal and deep green leaves that turn yellow to scarlet in the Autumn season, it is an excellent feature tree for gardens, larger parks, and lawns. The height of the tree can be 30 to 50 feet with highly deep roots that make it very difficult to transplant. The tree can grow in wet, medium, and average soils in partial shade to full sun but prefers acidic and moist soils. In addition, it can also grow well in still water and can tolerate poorly-drained soils too. The bloom time of this tree is from May to June and blooms small egg-shaped blue colour berries.
