Camellia sasanqua Hiryu is a well-known variety. It is a blend of rosy red with deep red shading at the edges. The beautiful small shrub grows up to 2m and adorns pretty flowers in the season of autumn and early winter. ‘Hiryu’ grows well in a partly shaded area. If properly taken care of, the plant will grow in most soil types. But they are preferred to be grown in nicely drained mild acidic soil. The plant is drought tolerant when mature. Camellia sasanqua Hiryu is ideal for gardens, screens, topiary, hedges, espaliers, and large containers.
